My flutes are known as 'fipple' flutes referring to the sound mechanism and windway design being made into the flute instead of the totem. They are also known as 'woodland' style flutes, A name that was originally coined by renowned Native American flute maker Hawk Littlejohn. It is a dual chambered flute that uses a block to connect the slow air chamber to the sound chamber. The windway is made into the flute which lets the air vibrate the fipple more evenly. ![]() The tone holes are placed by using a special vice that is laser guided for accuracy. My flutes are hand turned on a lathe and are uniform. That does not mean they are 'cookie cutter' look a likes , just each flute has subtle differences that come from being made by one person. ![]() |
